Entry into force of the Highway Code postponed

The new Public Road Code was originally scheduled to enter into force on September 1, 2026. However, it had been in the air for some time that the implementation date would be postponed. Now it's been decided, and we know the new date: June 1, 2027 .

The four regulations that together form the Public Road Code are already available at www.wegcode.be, but please note that each of these regulations will be amended in the coming months by an amending decree. These amendments will serve to adjust the effective date and clarify some ambiguities. The new traffic signs may only be used after the effective date, and further changes to the traffic signs in the Highway Code are expected.

Until then, the regulations themselves will continue to specify September 1, 2026 as the effective date.
